Welcome to the Holiday issue of CapeWomenOnline, where we look at how you might enjoy this festive season without losing your mind! Within a few days of announcing our theme on September 1, every section of this issue was booked up by readers who had plenty to say about why they love being 'Home for the Holidays' on Cape Cod. From sharing favorite recipes, to humorous and poignant family stories, this issue will warm your heart and soul. As a wash-a-shore, I adopted the unique challenges and opportunities of living on this small peninsula. Over the years, I've seen how strong our community can be when it rallies for a cause. In the Winter 2013 issue of CWO, Jane Anderson's Packed in a Trunk asked readers to help bring her great aunt Edith's artwork home to Provincetown. Cape Women (and men) rallied behind Jane's efforts, and on October 11, barely nine months later, we gathered at the Larkin Gallery for the opening reception of Edith Lake Wilkinson's one-woman show. This issue also looks at how to reduce the pressures of the season. Tina M. Games suggests Journaling through the Holidays. Maggie French and Jessamy Scovil ask us to look a little closer to home for those all-important gifts. We also have End-of-the-Year Money Moves from Jane Bourette and Sherri Mahoney-Battles discusses the Return to the Days of Lay-a-way. As always, we've rounded up the Cape-wide list of Holiday Strolls and fun events that you can attend with family (or not) and friends. If you haven't checked out Holidays at Highfield Hall yet, then I encourage you to add that to your events calendar if you like the more traditional aspects of the season. THANK YOU to everyone who took our Reader Survey. Your responses will help to guide our path forward in 2014 and beyond. This is YOUR magazine. We encourage you to submit your stories, poetry, artwork and photography. I can't tell you how many times I bump into a reader-turned-contributor who tells me how much they appreciate having this venue to share their work. If you would like to become a contributor please visit our Submission Guidelines. Be sure to add your email to our FREE Subscription box (at the top of every page) to receive information about submission deadlines and upcoming events and classes. Don't forget to include with your submission your social media handles and website links for inclusion on your Author Page. Thank you to all our writers, artists, photographers and business owners who took the time to share your work with us this year. And thank you, dear reader, for sending us your LETTERS. We look forward to reading what you enjoyed about this new issue. Wishing you a very Happy Holidays and a Peaceful New Year! Nicola, Publisher/Editor |
