Naturally Inspired: Paintings Abstracted from Nature

at the Cape Cod Museum of Art

Naturally Inspired: Paintings Abstracted from Nature will be on exhibition at the Cape Cod Museum of Art from April 2 through May 29. This exhibition will feature paintings from seven abstract expressionists associated with Cape Cod: Bailey Bob Bailey, Mike Carroll, Betty Carroll Fuller, Jan Lhormer, Francie Randolph, Carol Odell and Bert Yarborough.

The artwork in this exhibition is inspired by nature, and by organic forms ranging from plants and gardens to the sky and outer space. The artists' abstract representation of these forms makes them as beautiful as they appear in nature.

Jan Lhormer exhibits her abstract paintings in both Provincetown and Falmouth. In discussing this CCMA exhibit, she says, "The eclectic mix of contemporary works that will be showcased should create a jolt of excitement that will surpass the white cube mentality of traditional gallery walls. Also, it unifies artists and venues from opposite ends of the Cape who interpret landscape with inventive visual language."

The artists represented in the exhibition will present a joint Gallery Talk on Sunday, May 15 at 2 pm. There will also be a reception for the artists on that same Sunday, from 2 to 4 pm. The talk and the reception are open to the public, and free with admission to the museum.

Cape Cod Museum of Art, the regional art museum of Cape Cod, the Islands and Southeastern Massachusetts, is located off Route 6A, 60 Hope Lane, on the grounds of Cape Cod Center for the Arts, Dennis. Admission: $8, free for ages 18 and younger and museum members.

Gallery hours for April are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays until 8 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 5 pm. Gallery hours will change for the month of May, to include being open on Tuesdays as well, from 10 am to 5 pm.
